As evidence, the Directorate General of Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti) has determined UMBY as the best practice in implementing the Internal Quality Assurance System for Higher Education. UMBY has implemented educational quality management with ISO 9001:2015. The Academic Information System at UMBY has also implemented an information security management system with ISO 27001:2013. All lecturers at UMBY have Masters and Doctoral degrees with academic positions of more than 60% Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, Professors and certified educators from the Ministry of National Education.

Currently, UMBY has 16 study programs, 13 undergraduate study programs and 3 postgraduate study programs under 6 faculties. The Faculty of Agroindustry has 4 study programs, namely: Agrotechnology, Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Product Technology and Master of Food Science (S2). The Faculty of Economics has 2 study programs, namely Management and Accounting. The Faculty of Psychology consists of 3 study programs: Psychology, Professional Masters (S2) and Master of Science (S2). The Faculty of Information Technology has 2 study programs: Information Systems and Informatics. The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education has 4 study programs: Mathematics Education, English Education, Counseling Guidance and Sports Science. The Faculty of Communication and Multimedia with the Communication Science study program. All study programs at UMBY are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education, namely 7 study programs with an A rating and others B and Good. The library at UMBY has also been accredited with an A rating.

In the Odd Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Year, Universitas Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta has implemented the Independent Learning Independent Campus Curriculum based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 3 of 2020. The Independent Learning Independent Campus Curriculum emphasizes the importance of expanding freedom for students, during the learning process at UMBY. The expansion of freedom is: expanding learning by taking a number of courses outside the main field of study and expanding interaction with various parties both on and off campus.
In the field of Research, UMBY is in the Main Cluster, which is ranked 180th out of 1,977 universities in Indonesia. While in the field of Community Service, UMBY is in the Very Good Cluster, ranked 96th out of 4,000 universities in Indonesia. This proves that UMBY is able to carry out the mission of the founding fathers, namely Angudi Mulyaning Bangsa.

To improve soft skills, students can channel their interests and talents in the fields of reasoning, sports and spirituality at UMBY, there are student organizations including: Faculty Student Executive Board, Study Program Student Association and Student Activity Units. The available Student Activity Units include: Menwa, Mahapala, KSR-PMI, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Futsal, Football, Martial Arts, Senthir, Nafiri Student Choir, and LPM Buana Pers. UKMs in the religious field include: UKM Islam Jama'ah An Nahl and UKM Talenta.
