Academic Support and Teaching System

One of the things that stood out to me during my exchange program at Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta was the strong academic support system. The university creates an environment where students—whether local or international—can thrive, be creative, and gain the skills that we needed for the real world. Moreover, the courses are generally designed to encourage innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability which makes learning both meaningful and relevant.

Additionally, what I love about the academic setup here is the flexibility. There’s a wide range of programs to choose from, including various majors, minors, and even graduate programs. Whether you prefer a structured classroom setting or a mix of online and in-person learning, there’s an option for you. This setup gives their students the freedom to personalize their education, much like in a small, student-focused university, but with the resources of a bigger institution.

The best part? You’re not limited to just one field of study. The university encourages their students to explore different disciplines and gain a broader perspective. This approach not only helps in building expertise to their students but also sharpens the problem-solving skills by integrating knowledge from different areas.

Mission

Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta isn’t just about academics—it’s about using education to make a real difference. The university aims to equip their students with both practical and theoretical knowledge that will help them succeed in their careers while also contributing to society that they belong in. They focus on important issues like democracy, technology, economic empowerment, urban development, and sustainability. It’s not just about learning; it’s about applying that knowledge to improve communities—both locally and globally.

Vision

The university envisions itself as a center for intellectual and creative growth. In a world that constantly changes, the goal is to prepare students to think critically, innovate, and create solutions that address real-world challenges. Their vision is centered on three key ideas:

  1. Creativity and Innovation – Encouraging students to push boundaries and think beyond what's normal.

  2. Social Engagement – Ensuring that academic experiences help students become active, responsible citizens.

  3. Commitment to Success – Supporting students in their academic journey while promoting meaningful research, scholarship, and public service.
