Welcome to My SEA Teacher Journey!
What is the SEA Teacher Program?
The SEA Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange Program is a special initiative that helps future teachers gain international teaching experience. It is a part of the Southeast Asia’s goal to improve education quality by training student teachers through hands-on practice in different countries. This program allows students taking education courses to teach in schools across Southeast Asia.
A Life-Changing Experience for Future Teachers
This program is open to 3rd- and 4th-year students taking education courses that specialize in subjects like Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Physical Education. For one month, participants teach in another Southeast Asian country, work with their mentors, and engage with students using English as the main language. More than just a practicum, the SEA Teacher Program broadens perspectives, builds adaptability, and fosters friendships across borders.
My Host University: Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta
Located in the cultural heart of Indonesia, Yogyakarta, Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta (UMBY) is a university known for its strong commitment to education and global collaboration. As for my experience, UMBY provides a welcoming and supportive environment for student teachers in which they provided us with expert mentors and friendly buddies to guide us throughout our exchange journey. The university values innovation, culture, and the development of future educators which makes it the perfect place for a meaningful learning experience.
Teaching in a new country, learning from different cultures, and growing as an educator—this journey is truly life-changing.
